Eloping in the Lake District

Eloping in the Lake District: A Breathtaking Wedding Adventure

If you're dreaming of a small, intimate wedding surrounded by stunning landscapes, a Lake District elopement might be the perfect choice. Recently, I had the pleasure of filming two incredible elopements at Low Hall the Lakes, an enchanting venue that offers the best of both worlds: a legal marriage ceremony with a registrar and the freedom to spend the rest of the day exploring the rugged beauty of the mountains.

Why Choose a Lake District Elopement?

For couples who love the outdoors, eloping in the Lake District is an unforgettable experience. With its dramatic fells, glistening lakes, and winding trails, the region offers endless opportunities for breathtaking wedding photos and films. Choosing to elope here means embracing nature, adventure, and the freedom to celebrate your love in a way that feels authentic to you.

Low Hall the Lakes: A Dream Venue for an Intimate Wedding

Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, Low Hall the Lakes is a magical setting for an elopement. This charming venue provides a cozy, romantic atmosphere where couples can exchange vows in front of their closest loved ones (or just the two of them). The best part? After saying "I do," you can step into the wilderness and embark on an adventure together, making your wedding day truly unique. Of course, there are other ways you can do your Lake District elopement too! There are other venues or even registry offices or churches you could ‘do the legal’ bit in before doing what you truly love - celebrating your love in the outdoors.

An Unforgettable Afternoon in the Mountains

After the ceremonies, I guided both couples to the breathtaking landscapes near Buttermere. We spent the afternoon hiking through rolling hills, capturing intimate moments amidst dramatic backdrops. The golden light filtering through the mountains, the wind sweeping across the fells—it all created the perfect setting for an elopement film that felt raw, real, and completely magical.

How to Plan Your Own Lake District Elopement

If you're considering an elopement in the Lake District, here are some key steps to make your dream day a reality:

  1. Choose a Venue – If you want a legally recognized ceremony, venues like Low Hall the Lakes provide a perfect balance of intimacy and adventure.

  2. Pick Your Perfect Location for Photos & Film – Whether it's Buttermere, Catbells, or the Langdale Pikes, plan for an adventure session that showcases the region’s beauty - I can of course also help you to choose locations :)

  3. Dress for the Outdoors – Think comfortable yet elegant attire that allows you to move freely through the landscape. Hiking boots under a wedding dress? Absolutely. I always keep a huge Dry Robe in my car to keep you toasty and warm if it’s wet or windy!

  4. Work with a Photographer & Videographer Who Gets You – Having a storyteller who understands the landscape and your love for adventure is key to capturing your day authentically.

Betsie & Adam’s Beautiful Micro Wedding

One of the most special elopements I filmed was that of Betsie and Adam, who planned their micro wedding in just three months. They married at Low Hall the Lakes with only 10 guests, creating a truly intimate and heartfelt ceremony in front of their nearest and dearest. After their vows, we took them into the mountains—their favourite place—to Buttermere, where we captured breathtaking moments that reflected their love for adventure and each other. The result was a stunning elopement film and photos that felt raw, real, and deeply personal.
